TVL vs. Pixels
With the shift from analog to digital technology, TVL has been largely replaced by pixels and megapixels as the standard for measuring resolution.
- TVL is an analog measure of resolution, based on the subjective perception of a human observer. It’s often used to describe the quality of older CCTV systems.
- Pixels are a digital measure of resolution, representing the tiny dots that make up a digital image (e.g., 1920×1080 pixels). This is an objective, standardized metric that is not tied to a specific screen size or aspect ratio.
