Types of Distribution Boxes
- Main Breaker Panels: The most common type found in residential and commercial buildings. It houses the main circuit breaker that protects the entire electrical system.
- Fuse Boxes: An older type of distribution box that uses fuses instead of circuit breakers. A fuse contains a thin wire that melts and breaks the circuit when there is an overcurrent. Unlike a circuit breaker, a blown fuse must be replaced.
- Sub-panels: These are smaller distribution boxes that are installed downstream from the main panel to add more circuits for a specific area, such as a garage, workshop, or a new addition to a home.
- Industrial Distribution Boards: These are larger, more robust versions designed to handle much higher electrical loads in commercial or industrial settings.
